Interest Free Student Loans

This program is the backbone of the MOAA Scholarship Fund. Eligible students who are accepted into this program area awarded interest free loans to offset the costs of continuing their education. By asking students to repay their loans, this program is able to recycle funds to assist military families for future generations.

General Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for an interest free loan, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Under 24 years old.
  • If parent is military officer-
    • Parent must sign up for a paid MOAA membership if child is selected to receive financial assistance and continue the membership until the child is no longer in the program.
  • If parent is enlisted military personnel-
    • Parent must be active duty, Reserve, National Guard, or retired. No membership is required.
  • High school or college GPA must be 3.0 or higher. 

 

Application Details

If you are eligible, we encourage you to apply! The application takes an estimated 15-20 minutes to complete. The following information is required to submit for consideration:

  • Academic information including your High School GPA & any relevant test scores
  • Parent or guardian information including military affiliation and income
  • Extracurricular activities (club/activity specifics)

Program Timeline

Below is the timeline used for the interest-free loan program. Please pay attention to your email and MOAA communication channels for updates.

 

November 1st-March 1st: Application opens

Spring: Semifinalists are alerted of their status and asked to upload supporting documentation to verify the information provided on the application is accurate.

Early Summer: Finalists are notified via email and must verify parent's paid MOAA membership (if military officer) and complete remaining paperwork including a legally binding promissory note.

August and December: Disbursements are sent out.

 

Exact timelines vary every year based on a variety of factors. Due to the legal requirements of distributing loans, it is vital that students complete all necessary paperwork early in order to avoid delays.

Loan Renewal

All students in the Education Assistance Program must submit a renewal application to secure funds for the following school year. The renewal window is open each year from January 1 to March 1. To access the renewal application, click here.

To maintain eligibility for the Education Assistance Program, you must meet the following requirements:

      • Have a college GPA of 2.0 or higher AND be in good academic standing as per your university standards.
      • Be a previous participant of the Education Assistance Program
      • Complete the renewal application by March 1

Loan Repayment

ZuntaFi performs all servicing activities for loan and is the primary contact for repayment information. Servicing includes establishing recurring payments, processing deferral requests, address and other contact updates, changes to banking information, etc.
